Along with the Latino community, Disney fans have been agog with an overwhelming ecstasy caused by Coco’s recent achievement. The animated Disney-Pixar hit won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Academy Awards.
During the event, the current senior director at Pixar Animation Studios, Daniel Arriaga was apparently delighted about this achievement when he came on stage to epitomize his Mexican culture and also share his passion for animation with a global audience.
Mr. Arriaga, who is also an alumnus of the Academy of Art University, revealed in a recent interview in his country home that the story and production of the animated movies culminated his long years of training in both artistic animation and direction.
He further stated that the making of Coco involved an affectionate and meticulously researched demonstration of his own cultural history. According to him, it was his culture that made the project so dear to him. As such, he just had to make things look real.
During a presentation at the Academy of Art University, Arriaga revealed that it wasn’t really easy for the team of animators to perfect the animation of the skeleton ancestors which typifies the cultural significance of “El Dia de los Muertos.”
