Jacob Gottlieb is well-known in the healthcare investment industry and others are excited to see what he is bringing with his newest venture, Altium Capital. Prior to this career move, Jabob Gottlieb founded Visum Asset Management where he served as the Chief Investment Officer. Over the last few years, he has been busy completing the final steps in closing down Visium and is looking forward to the fresh start with his new company.
When Jacob Gottlieb was a teenager, he experienced his first success in the world of investing in the form of a stock picking contest. Despite winning this contest, he chose an education path in medicine by earning his medical degree from New York University. While interning at St Vincent’s, he realized that a career in medicine wasn’t what he wanted to do. He thought back on his win as a teenager and decided to give the world of Wall Street a try.
His first position in the financial was with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. as a buy-side analyst. He made the decision to become a Certified Financial Analyst to advance his career in finances. After leaving Sanford, Jacob Gottlieb went on to work for Merlin Biomed Group as a portfolio manager. His career changed immensely when he began working at Balyasny Asset Management and he proved to everyone just how good his performance could be. His ambition led to him becoming one of the top earners in the firm. Inspired by his own success, he created his own company in 2005, Visium.
Jacob Gottlieb founded Visium with a group of colleagues and family and quickly saw a good deal of success. He already had an impressive reputation before co-founding the company and did not have any problems finding investors willing to put their faith into his business. With $300 million in seed capital, they grew the company to a fund worth $8 billion. They expanded to offices in San Francisco, New York, and London and employed 170 people. Jacob Gottlieb believes that the company was destined for success from the beginning and the hard work of everyone involved helped them to achieve it.
