The Academy of Art University is an art school established in 1929 by Richard S. Stephens in San Francisco, California. He believes that anyone can be accepted into an art institute school even without an art portfolio. In 1951, his son, Richard A. Stephens, took over. and ended with his daughter, Elisa, taking over it in 1992. Since then, it has been upgrading with the latest technologies and trends. Now, the University student entry has exceeded to over 18,000. By it being the largest accredited in art and design, there are over 15 majors available and some are even offered as online courses.
In 2007, the Acamedy of Art University became an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and received regional accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Both the Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degree are accredited. On January 1, 2006, the Master of Architecture received accreditation. As for the Bachelor of Architecture, it didn’t become accredited until January 1, 2015.
Alongside keeping pace with emerging technologies & industry trends, the Academy of Art University has an Automobile Museum. The collection included vintage cars, Forbes, Tucker 48, a 1933 Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow, and a 1928 Hispano-Suiza H6C. The museum showed many of its cars in an International Auto Show in the years 2009 for the 52nd Annual Show, 2013, and 2016 in the 59th Annual Show. The Academy of Art University has been continuing its participation in various of shows both in the museum and academically.
BFA and MFA graduates proved what they are worth in New York Fashion Week by participating in the Academy of Art University’s 21st runway showcase. Members of MFA Fashion Design included: Hailun Zhou, Eden Slezin, Saya Shen, Joanna Jadallah, Ryan Yu, and Jelly Shan. Members of BFA Fashion Design included: Carlos Rodriguez and Cana Klebanoff. Their ideas were so extraordinary, it not only left the crowd breathless but Ms. J Alexander and Sara Kozlowski as well.
